How to Allocate Time for Different GS Subjects in Mains Preparation
Let us understand this in a logical way.
There are 4 GS papers in Mains.
Each paper has 20 questions,
So, total GS questions = 4 Γ 20 = 80 questions
Now, letβs see the approximate subject-wise breakup of these 80 questions:
1.History β 6
2.Geography β 8
3.Society β 6
4.Constitution β 10
5.Social Justice Governance β 6
6. International Relations 4
7.Economy&Agriculture- 8
8. Science & Technology β 4
9. Environment & Disaster Management β 4
10. Internal Security β 4
11. Ethics Theory β 13
12. Ethics Case Studies β 6
Each subject has a different weightage.
So now, imagine β out of 80 questions, only 6 questions come from History.
Based on this weightage and the total time you have, you should give sufficient time to every subject instead of spending unnecessary time on a few.
Because to clear Mains, you need to have decent knowledge of all subjects and the ability to write answers for all questions in a balanced way.
Mastering one or two subjects will not help you score well.
The key is to maintain balance across all subjects and ensure overall coverage and consistency.

Whenever I post any mains question based on newspaper
Do write answers and then next day check the model answer
This way within few weeks you will master answer writing.
Without writing answers you read hundreds of model answers but there will be little improvement.
*Important suggestion
Donβt wait to write a complete answer or a good answer.
Even if you know only one point or two points on the first day of your answer writing write it on the paper
Second day it will become two or three
This way you improve and not like you write best answer on the first day itself.

Life always full of paradoxes.
An enemy may come to your rescue when all hope is lost,
and a friend may disappear when you need them the most.

Those who have failed Prelims several times have too much pressure because of which they tend to read too much content for Prelims neglecting mains preparation. Even I faced with the same situation. I continuously failed in Prelims in 3 attempts and when it was 4th I completely focused on Prelims. Though I cleared prelims in my 4th attempt I failed very badly in mains. Later I had little time to work on my mains. Once again I failed in mains in my next attempt.
However By godβs grace with the help of my friends who are into service by then and my mentors I could work upon my mains immediately after mains results in my 5th attempt and that made me score very well in my last attempt.
So I want to summarise that even if you clear prelims the happiness will last for few days. Our aim is not clearing prelims but clearing Civil services.
That is the reason if you are my following my telegram channel I try to give a holistic approach and focus more on Mains as it is the final game changer.
One more thing till January or February try to finish your mains test series and check your scores in them so that you will have more confidence while giving prelims.
Last thing Either I guide people or I stop guiding but I will never misguide anyone. And whenever I guide I do it on the basis of Approach of Many rankers and not just on my own strategy. As it is necessary to follow average upsc ranker approach than following exceptional cases.

Some students have expressed concerns that after launching the paid test series and mentorship program, I may stop posting important articles, mains questions and answers, other useful content, YouTube sessions, and guidance-related posts.
I want to clarify that I started the paid mentorship program in April, and more than 100 students have already joined it. Even after that, I have continued to contribute consistently to the student community through my channel , me sharing important updates, motivational content, and guidance to help aspirants stay focused and move in the right direction.
My focus has always been on providing quality guidance and the right direction rather than overwhelming students with excessive content. I firmly believe that focused preparation matters more than quantity, and I will continue to maintain this approach in the future as well.
Thank you !!
