Satellite image shows new system which may revive monsoon across India

After days of weak monsoon activity, a fresh weather system has formed over Bay of Bengal, raising hopes of widespread rainfall across India. The system originated in Pacific Ocean and is expected to move towards Odisha/West Bengal over next 2-3 days. "Enhanced rainfall activity is expected over...Northeast India, East UP, and Western Himalayan Region during next 7 days," IMD said.

West Bengal govt transfers 28 IPS & 5 state police officers

The West Bengal government on Tuesday transferred 28 IPS officers and five West Bengal Police Service (WBPS) officers. As per the notification, NR Babu was appointed DG (CID), while K Jayaraman IPS has been posted as director of Directorate of Economic Offences. E20 petrol does not significantly cut mileage or harm engines: IIT Kanpur

Amid concerns over the nationwide rollout of E20 petrol, IIT Kanpur said its research found no significant drop in fuel efficiency and no evidence that fuel damages vehicle engines. The institute claimed fuel efficiency drops by less than 5% with E20. Project Scientist Dhruv Raj Karana said extensive testing showed E20 doesn't cause engine damage, corrosion or other technical problems.

50% Indian states & UTs cross RBI's inflation target in June

Half of India's states and Union Territories recorded retail inflation that had crossed the Reserve Bank of India's 4% target in June, as per government data. Telangana (6.36%) recorded the highest inflation, followed by Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry (5.39% each). Large states that recorded inflation above the RBI's target included Gujarat, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha.

India has amended its Foreign Trade Policy to ban the import of goods produced using forced labour. According to a notification by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade, the agency can investigate and recommend bans on goods produced using forced labour.
