AI used to uncover ₹70,000 crore 'billing scam' by restaurants across India

An investigation by the Income Tax Department's Hyderabad unit has found that several restaurants across India underreported sales of ₹70,000 crore since 2019-20 through alleged billing scam using a software. The officials used AI and Generative AI tools to analyse data linked to 1.77 lakh restaurant IDs, mapping GST numbers and PANs. They reportedly analysed 60 TB of billing data.
