5,000-yr-old bacteria resistant to antibiotics found in Romanian cave

Scientists have discovered 5,000-year-old bacteria in an ancient underground ice cave in Romania. The microorganism, found within a layer of ice, is resistant to 10 modern antibiotics and belongs to the strain Psychrobacter SC65A.3. “If melting ice releases these microbes, these genes could spread to modern bacteria, adding to...global challenge of antibiotic resistance,” the study’s author said.

How will taxes apply to specified mutual funds in FY27?

Specified mutual funds, mainly debt funds, are taxed based on the purchase date. In FY27, for investments made on/after April 1, 2023, capital gains will be treated as short-term and taxed at the investor's income-tax slab rate. For investments made before that, long-term gains (after 24 months for unlisted and 12 months for listed units) will be taxed at 12.5%.

Firms pledge over $260 billion at India AI Impact Summit
