Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved construction of India’s first underwater twin tube road-cum-rail tunnel project in Assam at an estimated cost of ₹18,662 crore. The twin tube road-cum-rail tunnel will be 33.7 km long, including a 15.79 km tunnel beneath the Brahmaputra River. It will connect NH-15 and NH-715 and is expected to also benefit Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland.
