BNSS changes police custody and trial timelines

The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita allows police custody of up to 15 days to be taken in parts during the first 40 or 60 days of judicial custody, depending on the case. It also introduces timelines in 45 sections, including delivery of judgment within 45 days after arguments. Medical reports in rape cases must be submitted within 7 days.

Cabinet approves Noida Metro extension from Sector 142 to Botanical Garden

The Union Cabinet approved the extension of Noida Metro’s Aqua Line from Sector 142 to Botanical Garden. The 11.56 km stretch will have eight elevated stations. The project will be completed within a period of four years with an investment of ₹2,254 crore. With this extension Noida and Greater Noida will have a total active metro rail network of 61.62 km.

RBI mandates 100% secured credit facilities for broker funding

RBI on February 13 updated norms for how banks extend credit to stockbrokers and other capital market intermediaries. Under the revised directions, banks must provide credit to regulated stockbrokers only on a fully secured basis (i.e. 100% collateral) instead of current 50% collateral. Banks shall also not provide financing to intermediaries for acquisition of securities on their own account.
