The US has cautioned its citizens in Bangladesh about potential violence ahead of the Saturday (December 20) funeral of radical anti-India leader Osman Hadi, whose death sparked riots. "Gatherings intended to be peaceful can...escalate into violence," warned the advisory. "You should avoid demonstrations and exercise caution in the vicinity of any large gatherings," it told Americans.

150 computers, cash, food looted in attack on Bangladesh media office

The office of Prothom Alo, Bangladesh's leading newspaper, was vandalised and looted before being set on fire by a violent mob. "They looted more than 150 computers and laptops, multiple lockers for storing money, cash, and personal belongings from...employees' desks," the media house shared. More than 100 flights were cancelled at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) on Saturday as dense fog led to low visibility, disrupting flight operations.
