Lok Sabha passes SHANTI Bill allowing nuclear sector privatisation

Lok Sabha on Wednesday passed the Sustainable Harnessing and Advancement of Nuclear Energy for Transforming India (SHANTI) Bill, 2025. The bill revamps India’s nuclear energy laws and enables participation of private players in building and operating nuclear power plants for first time since Independence. The bill was passed by voice vote amid a walkout by opposition members in the house.

Footballer Mario Pineida shot dead in Ecuador

Mario Pineida, a 33-year-old Barcelona de Guayaquil defender, was shot dead in Ecuador's Samanes. According to a report by Primicias, Pineida was attacked by two people riding motorcycles, who opened fire on him, his mother and another woman. In September, three footballers from Ecuador's second division were killed in an attack.

Thousands of dinosaur footprints found near Winter Olympics venue

Thousands of dinosaur footprints dating back over 200 million years have been discovered on a near-vertical rock face in Italy’s Stelvio National Park. Stretching nearly five kilometres, the tracks were found near Bormio, a 2026 Winter Olympics venue in northern Lombardy. Experts believe the Triassic-era tracks were left by long-necked herbivores, likely plateosaurs, on ancient tidal flats.

Meta made $3 billion from scam ads run by Chinese firms: Report

Meta's ad business in China generated over $18 billion in annual sales in 2024. However, a Reuters report found that over $3 billion of the total amount came from ads for scams, illegal gambling, pornography and other banned content. Delhi HC clarified that couples seeking divorce by mutual consent aren't required to live separately for one year, as prescribed under Hindu Marriage Act. A division bench had sought guidance on whether the separation period is a precondition.
