Govt makes SIM binding mandatory for WhatsApp, Telegram & other messaging platforms

The Department of Telecommunications has directed popular over-the-top (OTT) messaging platforms like WhatsApp, Telegram, Snapchat, Signal, ShareChat, JioChat, etc to implement mandatory SIM binding for user accounts. The move is aimed at restricting a rise in online fraud and digital arrests. Government has given a 90-day deadline to ensure their apps are linked to active SIM in users' devices.

4 dead in shooting at child's birthday party in California

Four people were killed and ten others injured when gunmen opened fire during a child's birthday party at a banquet hall in Stockton, Northern California, on Sunday. Burtele Foot belonged to a human & ape-like species: Study

The 3.4-million-year-old 'Burtele Foot', found in Ethiopia in 2009, belonged to Australopithecus deyiremeda, a species showing both human-like and ape-like features, researchers said. Fossils of a child's teeth and jawbone found nearby confirmed this link. The fossils reveal that A. deyiremeda lived alongside Australopithecus afarensis, showing 2 closely related hominins coexisted in same region.

India's fertility rate falling, population will stabilise below 2 billion by 2080: IASP

India's population is expected to stabilise at 1.8 or 1.9 billion by 2080 due to a falling fertility rate, the Indian Association for the Study of Population (IASP) said. Total Fertility Rate (TFR) is currently below the replacement level (the average number of children born per woman to stabilise population) at 1.9, IASP said. TFR was at 3.5 in 2000.
