Indian Navy commissions deep-sea diving vessel INS Nipun

The Indian Navy on Monday commissioned the deep-sea diving vessel INS Nipun in Mumbai. The second Diving Support Vessel was commissioned in the presence of the Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Krishna Swaminathan. INS Nipun, the second Nistar-class vessel, is indigenously built and designed and strengthens the deep-sea diving, underwater intervention, and submarine rescue capabilities of the Navy.

A ₹4-crore cheque, donated by a Chennai woman to help provide facilities for staff at Ayodhya's Ram Temple, has bounced. The bank found just ₹3 in the account from which the high-value cheque was issued, reported India Today. The bank is now preparing to send a notice to the woman, who also donated ₹10,000 to the temple, seeking an explanation.

AIMIM leader Mehboob Ali stabbed to death in Hyderabad

AIMIM leader Mehboob Ali was stabbed to death by five to six assailants in Hyderabad’s Vattepally on Sunday night, police said. The 60-year-old area president sustained serious injuries and died during treatment at hospital. Police have formed three special teams to trace the attackers and are examining CCTV footage.

Nepal Police arrested a 32-year-old man for allegedly using ChatGPT to create a fake NPR 120,000 (around ₹75,000) donation receipt for the Prime Minister's Disaster Relief Fund. He posted the fake eSewa statement on social media, claiming he donated to flood victims. He then used a personal QR code to receive donations from people believing they were supporting relief efforts.

Sensex falls over 500 points, Nifty below 24,000 on US-Iran tensions

Indian benchmark indices fell on Monday, with the Sensex dropping 504 points to 76,760 and the Nifty losing 177 points to 23,998. The decline followed renewed US-Iran tensions, which pushed crude prices higher and raised inflation and interest-rate concerns. Over 200 inmates across 31 Assam jails test positive for HIV in 4 months

As many as 31 Assam jails recorded 226 HIV-positive cases between April and July, with injecting drug use linked to nearly 95% of them. Of the 226 HIV-positive inmates, 202 are receiving antiretroviral therapy (ART). "Due to...injecting drug use behaviour, drugs are injected outside the prison and get detected while regular screening of HIV in prison setup," an official said.

Delhi records season's 2nd-highest swine flu cases, 199 infected in 24 hours

Delhi recorded 199 new swine flu (H1N1) cases in the last 24 hours on August 29, taking total tally to 3,006, several reports stated. This was the second-highest number of swine flu cases recorded in a single day this season, after 258 cases were reported on August 24. Nepal asked China for early warnings months before flash floods but didn't get adequate data
