US troops to exit Iraq by September, ending 23-year military presence

The US will completely withdraw its military forces from Iraq by September 30, bringing an end to a military presence that began with the 2003 invasion of the country. The announcement was made jointly by US President Donald Trump and Iraqi PM Ali al-Zaidi on Tuesday. "We don't think we need the military there anymore," Trump said.

US bill lowers proposed tariff on India for buying Russian oil from 500% to 100%

US Senate has introduced a revised Russia sanctions bill that cuts the proposed maximum tariff on countries such as India and China buying Russian oil and gas from 500% to 100%, Reuters reported. The bill, originally championed by the late Senator Lindsey Graham, includes sanctions against Russia’s vital energy, defence, financial and industrial sectors. It could be passed before August.

We didn't adapt, failed to close large deals: IBM CEO to investors

IBM shares crashed 25.2% on Tuesday after its preliminary Q2 results missed Wall Street expectations. In a letter to investors, IBM CEO Arvind Krishna said clients shifted their quarterly capex spend toward servers, storage and memory in late June. He added, "We didn't adapt and move quickly enough, and numerous large deals failed to close on the timelines we expected."

India-UK FTA comes into effect

India's Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the United Kingdom came into effect today, eliminating tariffs on 99% of India's exports to the UK. The FTA reduces up to 70% of tariffs on processed food products, 16% on leather and footwear, and nearly 12% on textiles and clothing to zero. It'll provide phased tariff concessions to premium vehicles from the UK.

Toll fee hiked at 8 plazas across Punjab & Haryana

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has revised toll charges at eight plazas across Punjab and Haryana. Private cars and light motor vehicles will have to pay ₹5-₹10 more per trip at Ghulal, Paind, Kot Karor, Kalajhar, Khuian Sarvar, Lehrabega, Kala Tibba and Shekhpura, reports said. Toll rates for buses, trucks and other commercial vehicles have also been increased.

Licenses of Mumbai’s iconic Shalimar Restaurant, 100-yr-old Noor Mohammadi Hotel suspended

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the food business licences of three Mumbai restaurants, including the iconic Shalimar Restaurant, Noor Mohammadi Hotel and Rehmania Restaurant. The licences were suspended as insects and crows, unhygienic storage of raw materials, peeling paint and greasy walls were found at the outlets. Noor Mohammadi Hotel is over 100 years old.

UK plans midnight social media curfew for 16-17 year olds

India has responded after ousted Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said she will return to Bangladesh this year. "There's no change in our approach to the matter. Any extradition matter is a legal issue, and it will be dealt with accordingly," Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said.
