#karpathuias Mizoram shares a 123-km border with southern Assam and has been claiming a 509-square mile stretch “occupied” by the neighbouring State.

Mizoram used to be the Lushai Hills district of Assam before being made a Union Territory in 1972 and a State in 1987.

Both States have been disputing an extensive stretch of this boundary.

Yes Bank crisis in brief:

Reasons:

1. NPAs. Corporates who borrowed loans became defaulters. Now Yes Bank left with no money for its depositors. Thus RBI put restrictions on withdrawal limit. This amounts to poor corporate governance.

2. RBI warned Yes Bank few times for hiding NPAs. But Yes Bank white washed them. Poor quality assessment by RBI even.

3. As there is no growth in economy and poor ease of doing business, Yes Bank didn't see any private investments to come out of this dire situation. Thus crisis.

We are hearing about bank mergers all the time because government thinks these public sector banks are not doing well. Thus forcing them for merge. And also giving licenses for many private banks.

But the irony here is that, government requesting these public sector banks to save private banks which are in crisis. Government already forced LIC for acquisition of IDBI bank. IDBI is far from doing well.

Now, government requested SBI and LIC to acquire Yes Bank. This means public money (the depositors, you and me) is taken for a ride by these corporates and government also (be it UPA of BJP - These corporates fund the governments). Now the question is, why public back corporate babus?

While there is some inefficiency with public sector banks (only in terms of customer services), however, customer feels more secure for their deposits in public sector banks.

This is not the case with private sector banks (hope you are aware of PMC bank crisis in Maharashtra). In private sector banks customer services are great, but this alone doesn't guarantee great customer satisfaction. Customers are satisfied only when their deposits are secure. This is the primary thing needs to be addressed for great customer satisfaction. Public sector banks do it well.

We live in a world where the customer is the king. Public sector banks equipped with great technology can out weigh the private sector banks in terms of customer services thus leading to great customer satisfaction and efficiency also. As of now, merging of banks didn't prove to be successful. Only time well tell.
