🔘Arittapatti : New Biodiversity Heritage Site @Karpathuias

The Tamil Nadu government recently issued a notification declaring Arittapatti and Meenakshipuram villages in Madurai district the first biodiversity heritage site in the State.
About
◾️Arittapatti, known for its ecological and historical significance, houses around 250 species of birds, including three important raptors — Laggar Falcon (Falco jugger), Shaheen Falcon (Falco peregrinus) and Bonelli’s Eagle (Aquila fasciata).
◾️It is also home to wildlife such as the Indian Pangolin (Manis crassicaudata), Python (Python molurus) and Slender Loris (Loris spp).
◾️The area is surrounded by a chain of seven hillocks or inselbergs, that serve as a watershed, charging “72 lakes.
◾️The Anaikondan tank, built during the reign of the Pandiyan kings in the 16th century, is one of them.
◾️The site also features various megalithic structures, Tamil Brahmi Inscriptions, Jain Beds and 2200-year-old rock-cut temples adding to its historical value.

◾️சுற்றுச்சூழல் மற்றும் வரலாற்று முக்கியத்துவம் வாய்ந்த அரிட்டாபட்டியில் சுமார் 250 வகையான பறவைகள் உள்ளன, இதில் மூன்று முக்கிய ராப்டர்கள் உள்ளன - லக்கர் பால்கன் (பால்கோ ஜக்கர்), ஷாஹீன் பால்கன் (பால்கோ பெரேக்ரினஸ்) மற்றும் போனெல்லியின் கழுகு (அக்விலா ஃபேசியாட்டா).
◾️இது இந்திய பாங்கோலின் (Manis crassicaudata), மலைப்பாம்பு (Python molurus) மற்றும் Slender Loris (Loris spp) போன்ற வனவிலங்குகளின் தாயகமாகவும் உள்ளது.
