That's the difference.

PWR (Pressurized Water Reactor)

A PWR is a reactor where ordinary water is used both as coolant and moderator, and it is kept under very high pressure so that it does not boil.
Example: Reactors used by Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited in several projects are based on this concept.

Key points:
1)Uses enriched uranium
2) Water does not boil inside the reactor
3) Heat is transferred to another water system to produce steam
4) Most common reactor type in the world

PHWR (Pressurized Heavy Water Reactor)

A PHWR uses heavy water (Dβ‚‚O) instead of normal water.
Example: Many reactors at Kakrapar Atomic Power Station and Rajasthan Atomic Power Station are PHWR type.

Key points:
1) Uses natural uranium (no enrichment needed)
2) Heavy water is used as moderator and coolant
3) Widely used in India

Value of Rupee (β‚Ή)

Determined by demand and supply in the foreign exchange market

System: Managed float under Reserve Bank of India (RBI intervenes when needed)

Key Drivers

1. Trade Balance
More exports β†’ demand for β‚Ή ↑ β†’ appreciation
More imports β†’ demand for $ ↑ β†’ β‚Ή depreciates

2. Capital Flows (FII/FDI)
Inflows β†’ β‚Ή strengthens
Outflows β†’ β‚Ή weakens

3. Inflation
Higher inflation in India β†’ β‚Ή loses value

4. Interest Rates
Higher rates β†’ attract foreign investors β†’ β‚Ή appreciates

5. RBI Intervention
Buys/sells dollars to stabilize excessive volatility

β€œRupee value is market-determined by forex demand–supply, with RBI managing volatility under a controlled float system.”

The aim of a good mentor or teacher should be to help students find their own direction and stand on their own feet, not to make them dependent forever.

Stay in reality.

You can’t predict when you will clear UPSC. Some of my friends cracked it in their first attempt, some others in 2–3 attempts. I cleared it in my 6th attempt. There are also many who reach Mains or even the interview but don’t make it.

So, if you want to prepare for UPSC, don’t follow anyone blindly. Keep your own timeline. Decide how many attempts you want to give and how many years you are willing to dedicate.
That decision should be yours.

However, as a ranker and mentor, I suggest you spend at least 2–3 years in preparation and give at least 2–3 serious attempts.

Things you should understand about UPSC

When some of my friends were appearing for interviews, I was still struggling to clear Prelims. Yet, I went on to secure AIR 587 in CSE 2023 before many of them could clear the exam.

At the same time, several candidates who couldn’t clear Prelims in 2023 later became Top 10 rankers in 2024 and 2025.
This shows how unpredictable this exam is.
So, have patience and focus on your preparation sincerely, without expecting immediate results.

Change is the Only Constant.

Don’t panic.

Be cautious about what you see on social media and mainstream media regarding war, gas shortages, lockdowns, and similar issues. Many people exploit such situations by creating sensational news and reels just to attract viewers.

Yes, difficulties are there, but if we stay strong and calm, we can overcome them together.
