PoK is the part of the former princely state of Jammu & Kashmir under Pakistan's control since 1947–48.
It comprises:
Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) – Capital: Muzaffarabad
Gilgit-Baltistan – Capital: Gilgit
India considers PoK an integral part of India based on the Instrument of Accession (1947).
The Line of Control (LoC) separates Indian-administered J&K from PoK.
Strategic importance:

UPSC aspirants, please note one important aspect.
Though around 5–6 lakh people prepare for this exam, only 10–20% of the students show consistency in their preparation.
For example, in the last one and a half years, more than 200 students have joined our Mentorship Programs, but only 40–50 students have actually stayed consistent throughout the sessions, and they are performing well. The rest are very inconsistent.
So, if you can maintain consistency in the right direction for 2–3 years, then your chances are very high because you are already eliminating 80% of the competition through your consistency alone.
So stay consistent, even if you feel it is difficult and boring on some days.
Let others leave the competition, not you.
