My personal experience and analysis of failure in Prelims

Many aspirants read numerous concepts, topics, and themes, but lack clarity on them. They focus more on quantity rather than understanding concepts in a meaningful way.

Yes, there are difficult questions. However, there are also many easy and moderate questions. Those who make mistakes in easy and moderate questions end up paying a huge price.

At least from now on, please understand this: Focus on PYQ themes, limit your sources, understand concepts deeply, and revise multiple times.

Whether you are clearing Prelims or not
Whether you are preparing for 2026, 2027 or 28.
From now the Focus should be on Mains Syllabus Completion, Making notes, Answer writing.
Read Newspaper everyday.
Balance Gs and Optional.
For writing Good Essays make a habit to read Novels and news editorials.
Once again First few days See Previous years Questions and then start reading.

Please understand that Pain is inevitable in life. However it will reduce with time.
Don't judge your life with examination. Life is beyond that.
If you stay positive you can do wonders in life.
Scoring less marks don't make you a failure.
If you really trust my words then stay calm for few days. Pain will reduce and later think about future.
If one door shuts another opens.

When it comes to cutoff
One thing I can say is it will be at the lower side as even rankers felt the paper was difficult and similar to 2023.
So you don't think bad even if you are scoring in 70s or 80s.

A man once lost everything in a flood his house, his crops, and all his savings. Broken and hopeless, he sat near a tree and cried, “Why does life punish me again and again?”

As per my understanding, those who are qualifying CSAT and scoring around 80–85 marks (General category) have a good probability of clearing Prelims.

You need to understand that whether the paper is easy or difficult, UPSC has to select only around 13,000–14,000 students for Mains, as per the 1:12 ratio.

Out of nearly 5.5 lakh aspirants who appeared, it is not difficult for UPSC to filter out that number.
