OTEC Project in India

OTEC (Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion) is a renewable energy technology that generates electricity by using the temperature difference between warm surface seawater and cold deep seawater.

India’s OTEC programme is being developed by the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, mainly targeting island regions like the Lakshadweep Islands.

Concept of OTEC

Tropical oceans have warm surface water (~25–30°C) and cold deep water (~5–10°C) at depths of around 1000 m.

OTEC systems use this ~20°C temperature difference to produce electricity through a heat engine cycle.

Working

Warm surface seawater heats a working fluid (like ammonia).

The fluid vaporizes and spins a turbine, generating electricity.

Cold deep seawater is pumped up to condense the vapor back into liquid.

The cycle repeats continuously to generate power.

Something I want to say about the UPSC Civil Services Examination is that it requires immense effort and struggle to clear it. I have seen it myself and also among many of my close friends who have cleared this exam.

There are countless sacrifices, many ups and downs, and numerous failures along the journey. Yet, every day we remained determined. We never worried too much about what would happen if we didn’t clear the exam.

The only thing in our minds was that as long as we had the time and energy, we would keep trying our best.

The exam was tough, but we were tougher.

But I saw my mother working for hours and hours, rolling beedis, sometimes even eating just one meal a day.
She started working from the age of 8.
I saw her walking many kilometres in the hot sun to submit the rolled beedis at the kharkhana.
I saw my mother doing all the household work along with her beedi work.
My mother could do many different kinds of work.
Even after crossing the age of 50, my mother still puts the same effort into everything she does.
Like my mother there are millions of women who are working day and night for the welfare of their families.

Then I realised that women are not weak. They are stronger than we ever think.
They are more determined than our imagination.
They are capable of doing anything and everything.

Some students are still confused about how the mentorship will work.

There will be Zoom video sessions where I will interact with every individual and discuss their personal strategy and preparation plan. It will be very much like sitting with me and discussing your issues and doubts directly. At the same time, I will also discuss in detail different topics from all GS papers and Essay.

You may be preparing for 2026, 2027, or 2028. Even though the sessions will be conducted in a group, individual strategy and guidance will be given to each student. The group size will always be limited so that I can give sufficient time and attention to every student during the sessions.

A WhatsApp group will be created for that batch, where every student will share their notes and answers. I will review and discuss them regularly during the sessions. You will also be able to see the competition and how other members are performing, which will encourage you to put in more effort and stay consistent.

It’s not that I don’t know how to advertise my mentorship program by showcasing top rankers and other ranks. Those are market gimmicks.

If you want to join an institute based on such advertisements, you may choose those institutions.

Hello everyone
