Directions issued after school students get stuck in waterlogged roads in Gurugram

After several students were stuck in school buses for hours due to waterlogging in Gurugram, disaster management authority ordered that school buses would not be allowed on waterlogged streets and that alternative routes must be used. If there's no such route, students must be kept at schools, and parents must be informed. No child must be left on waterlogged streets.

Global price of gold has risen by over 17% since July 17. JPMorgan, world's largest bank by market capitalisation, forecasts gold prices could reach $6,000 per ounce, while Goldman Sachs expects prices to rise to $5,400 per ounce by late 2026. Russia bombs 5 ships at Ukrainian ports

Russia on Tuesday said that its forces bombed three cargo vessels carrying supplies for the Ukrainian military and a tanker at the Black Sea port of Pivdennyi. The country said it also hit another cargo vessel in the nearby port of Odesa, as well as port infrastructure in Pivdennyi and Odesa and fuel storage facilities at the port of Chornomorsk.

Bengal has 4,133 schools with no students but 19,502 teachers: Report

West Bengal has 4,133 schools with no enrolled students, but 19,502 teachers are deputed there, according to UDISE+ 2025-26 data. The state also has 6,769 single-teacher schools serving 2,29,569 students. Of 5,663 zero-enrolment schools across India, nearly 73% are in West Bengal. Uttar Pradesh ranks second with 313 such schools, where 177 teachers are posted, according to the report.

How has UPI grown over the last 10 years?

The Unified Payments Interface (UPI), which completed 10 years, has recorded a 13,574-fold rise in annual transaction volume. The number of transactions rose from 1.78 crore in 2016-2017 to 24,162 crore in 2025-26. The annual transaction value rose 4,486-fold from โ‚น0.07 lakh crore to โ‚น314 lakh crore. Number of participating banks rose from 21 to 741 as of July 2026.

Borrowing costs, or the interest rate at which banks lend money, are higher in India than in China, Moneycontrol reported. Home and personal loan rates average around 7.5-8.45% and 10-15%, respectively, while in China, they hover around 3.1% and 3.5-3.65%. Since India has a higher government bond yield rate, lenders may face higher funding costs, leading to elevated loan rates.
