Govt hikes windfall tax on petrol and diesel exports

The government has hiked windfall gains tax on exports of petrol, diesel and ATF from August 3. The tax on diesel exports has been hiked from ₹15.5/litre to ₹24/litre, while that on ATF exports has been hiked from ₹14.5/litre to ₹22/litre. Duty on petrol exports has been raised from ₹2.5 per litre to ₹3.5 per litre.

Sweden-based organised crime group, Foxtrot Network, hires vulnerable European teenagers to carry out murders and attacks across Europe and has an Iran-based leader, Rawa Majid, BBC reported. The gang recruits teens on social media, gives them "game-like" instructions and offers cash in return. The network is allegedly responsible for about 35 murders and several anti-Israeli attacks since 2022.

FSSAI bans Dabur from selling products with '100%' claims

The FSSAI has directed Dabur India to immediately stop selling food products carrying "100%" claims, calling them misleading and a violation of its regulations. The order covers products including honey, cow ghee and coconut water marketed as "100% Natural", "100% Pure" or "100% Purity Guaranteed". Such claims are "ambiguous, unverifiable and likely to mislead consumers", FSSAI said.

Some of these apps claim to have been installed on hundreds of millions of smart TVs, according to new security research. Anti-cruelty law for married women applies to those in live-ins: Supreme Court

Supreme Court has ruled that women in live-in relationships "in nature of marriage" can seek protection under Section 498A of IPC, which deals with cruelty by husbands and in-laws. The court said protection will apply only if the couple shares "intention to marry”. Denying such women protection while granting it to legally married women would violate Article 14, SC said.

A study conducted by IIT Roorkee and IIT Kanpur found that years of exposure to air pollution is accelerating the decay of Humayun's Tomb. Researchers analysed black crust made of gypsum collected from the sandstone in different parts of the monument. The gypsum traps dust and metal particles from vehicle emissions and construction activities, and gradually weakens the sandstone.
