How Jantar Mantar became India’s protest site?

Jantar Mantar, built in 1724 as an astronomical observatory, became protest site in 1990s. Earlier, demonstrations in Delhi were held near India Gate. However, after massive protests there in 1980s, authorities began directing demonstrations to Jantar Mantar Road.
