Congress worker dies after iron rod falls on him at Rahul Gandhi's Dehradun event

A 65-year-old Congress worker died after an iron rod from a tent erected for Rahul Gandhi's scheduled event fell on him in Dehradun on Thursday evening, a party leader said. The deceased, Amar Mehta, was supervising preparations beneath the tent when the rod suddenly fell, causing a severe head injury. Mehta had been an active Congress worker for several decades.

49 years after murder, SC acquits UP man who has served life term

The Supreme Court, calling the prosecution's story doubtful, acquitted UP's Hiral Lal and two others in connection with a murder that took place in 1977. Raj Bux and Subedar were granted bail in 2013 but Lal's bail plea was rejected as prosecution called him the main accused. Lal has already served life sentence, remitted by UP government.

India among top countries for Hormuz transit requests

India had one of the highest shares of vessel transit requests through Iran-recommended Strait of Hormuz routes since June 17. For vessels entering Persian Gulf, India accounted for 21% of requests, while China accounted for 19%. For vessels exiting the Gulf, India had 20% of transit requests, second only to China at 21%, while other Asian destinations accounted for 29%.

PM Modi flags off India’s first-ever hydrogen train in Haryana

PM Narendra Modi flagged off India's first hydrogen-powered train from Jind Railway Station in Haryana on Friday. The indigenously developed train will operate on the 89-km Jind-Sonipat route. Govt plans jail term for insulting or disrupting Vande Mataram through amendment bill

Deliberate insult to or intentional obstruction of the singing of Vande Mataram could become punishable under the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971, through a proposed amendment. The Centre plans to introduce the Bill in the upcoming Monsoon Session. The Act currently prescribes imprisonment of up to three years, a fine, or both for disrupting the National Anthem.

'Jurassic Park' star Sam Neill died of pneumonia

Hollywood actor Sam Neill, best known for his role in the 'Jurassic Park' franchise, died of pneumonia, his agent confirmed.
