Police on Thursday detained BJP leader Andela Sriramulu Yadav and several party workers during a protest outside Success School in Hyderabad over allegations that a Class 2 Hindu student was asked to learn the Kalma (the Islamic declaration of faith) as homework. Protesters demanded that the school be shut down. Earlier, teacher Shaik Aisha Parveen was suspended over the incident.

New monkey species with orange lips discovered

A monkey species that has orange lips and lives in forests of the Democratic Republic of Congo has been confirmed as a new species to science. Junior Amboko, a PhD student at Florida Atlantic University, who played a leading role in the search said the monkeys were "kind of shy". The research team gave them the Latin name Colobus congoensis.
