Exiled B'deshi author Taslima to return to Kolkata after 19 years

Exiled Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasrin will return to Kolkata after 19 years to attend a literary meet at Rabindra Sadan on August 1. Reacting to it, BJP West Bengal President Samik Bhattacharya said, "I had told...government to bring Taslima...to Bengal. Why would the voice of Taslima...be suppressed?" Notably, she was forced to leave Kolkata in November 2007 following violent protests.

Adani Group fastest to enter India's top 10 most valuable brands: Report

The Adani Group has entered India's 'Top 10 Most Valuable Brands', according to the Brand Finance India 100 Report 2026. It climbed from 13th to eighth last year, becoming the fastest company to enter India's 'Top 10 Most Valuable Brands' in just three years. Brand Finance valued the Adani Group at $8.48 billion, up from $6.46 billion a year ago.

The owner of Little Scholars, which operated the daycare inside Capgemini's Bengaluru campus, alleged ex-manager Manjula, six terminated nannies (including whistleblower Sujata) and a man named Mahender conspired to extort money. She claimed they released child abuse videos after the company refused to pay. Mahender posed as a police officer to extort ₹20,000 and later ₹2.5 lakh, she alleged.

Mob vandalises Assam Rifles camp, torches vehicles in Manipur

A mob vandalised an Assam Rifles camp and set vehicles of security personnel on fire in Manipur's Senapati district on Tuesday night after the security force launched a search operation for armed cadres. An official said that the situation was brought under control and the crowd was fully dispersed by midnight. No injuries or casualties were reported, the official added.

India's edible oil imports fall 29% in June after PM Modi's appeal

India's edible oil imports fell 29% year-on-year to 11.46 lakh tonnes in June, according to the Solvent Extractors' Association of India data. The decline comes after PM Narendra Modi appealed to citizens in May to reduce edible oil consumption to help conserve foreign exchange reserves amid geopolitical tensions. India had imported 16.16 lakh tonnes of edible oil in June 2025.

Hindu man's fast broken after drinking Real juice that contained fungus, wins ₹70,000 compensation

A consumer commission in Himachal Pradesh has directed Dabur India to pay ₹70,000 to a devout Hindu man whose Saavan fast was broken after he drank from a one-litre pack of Real Fruit Power Mosambi juice infested with fungus. 108 govt school buildings in Delhi found unsafe & dangerous, 7 to be demolished

A total of 108 Delhi government school buildings, about one in ten across the capital, have been identified as unsafe and dangerous. Of these, 54 are in "very poor condition", with cracks in walls and ceilings, and seven have been approved for demolition, The Indian Express reported. CM Rekha Gupta personally visited some of the schools to review the situation.
