Consumer panel pulls up Mohali builder over delay in possession

The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Chandigarh, has directed a Mohali-based builder to deliver physical possession of a residential plot to a city resident within two months and pay ₹30,000 as compensation and litigation expenses. The complainant, Amar Pal, said that despite receiving a substantial amount from him, the builder never issued an allotment letter.

SC dismisses Congress leader Meenakshi Natarajan's plea against RS nomination rejection

The Supreme Court on Friday rejected the plea filed by Congress' Meenakshi Natarajan against rejection of nomination papers for Rajya Sabha elections. It said candidate needs to approach Election Commission if nomination is rejected by the returning officer. Rajya Sabha Election Returning Officer Arvind Sharma cancelled Meenakshi's nomination over non-disclosure of a criminal case in Telangana.

Jaspal Rana was fit for discharge, suffered cardiac rupture in sleep: Doctor

Legendary shooter Jaspal Rana, who passed away aged 49 on Thursday night, had arrived at Delhi's Max Hospital with a three-day-old heart attack and a completely blocked artery, Dr Balbir Singh revealed. Rana, who was in heart failure, had recovered and was declared fit for discharge, doctor said. However, he suffered sudden cardiac rupture while asleep and died, he added.

India summons top US envoy again after US attacks on ships killed 3 Indians

4,000 EVMs gutted in govt building fire in WB, minister suspects sabotage

Around 4,000 electronic voting machines (EVMs) were gutted in fire at a government building in Kolkata, West Bengal Minister Kaushik Chowdhury said. The EVMs had been used in 10 constituencies during this year's Assembly polls. Chowdhury said the blaze didn't appear to be a "normal fire" and that authorities were examining the possibility of sabotage. Fire broke out on Wednesday.

S Korea’s ex-president Yoon gets 30 yrs in prison for sending drones to N Korea

A South Korean court has sentenced former President Yoon Suk Yeol to 30 years in prison over charges of sending military drones to North Korea. Prosecutors said Yoon ordered drones to be sent in October 2024 to provoke Pyongyang and create a pretext to declare martial law.
