Israel, Lebanon agree to a renewed ceasefire

World's first nuclear dustbin almost ready, set to be sealed for 1 lakh years

Finland's Onkalo, expected to be the world’s first permanent repository for spent nuclear fuel, is almost ready. Located about 430 metres underground in 1.9-billion-year-old bedrock, it will seal radioactive fuel in copper canisters surrounded by bentonite clay. The facility can store 6,500 tonnes of spent fuel and is designed to isolate waste for 1,00,000 years after official approval is granted.

India becomes 2nd largest solar growth market, surpassing US

India has become the world's second-largest solar growth market, surpassing US in annual solar capacity addition in 2025, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said on Wednesday. According to data from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), India added 37 GW of solar capacity in 2025, while US added 34 GW. India ranks third in installed renewable energy capacity globally.
