India's Ayush Shetty defeated world number four Jonatan Christie to enter the men's singles semi-finals of the Badminton Asia Championships 2026 on Friday. The 20-year-old, who is ranked 25th, beat Indonesia's Christie 23-21, 21-17. Shetty, who is the reigning US Open Super 300 champion, had beaten 20th-ranked Chi Yu Jen of Chinese Taipei in the round of 16 on Thursday.

6 killed, several missing as boat capsizes on Yamuna river in UP's Mathura

At least six people died, and several others went missing after a boat carrying pilgrims from Punjab capsized on the Yamuna River in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura on Friday. Mathura DM CP Singh said that 16–17 people have been rescued alive. He added that around 30 people from Ludhiana were boating in two boats when one of the boats collapsed.

30 kg gold worth ₹38 cr seized at Mumbai airport, 24 smugglers held

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) busted a gold syndicate and seized 29.37 kg of gold valued at ₹37.74 crore at Mumbai airport. The DRI acted on specific intelligence and identified a group of women "carriers" from Kenya attempting to smuggle large quantities of gold. They were all arrested under Operation Dhahabu Blitz on April 8.

BMC clears ₹91 lakh proposal to buy furniture for education department, faces backlash

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has approved a ₹91 lakh proposal to procure furniture for its education department. The proposal includes 11 L-shaped tables (₹6.43 lakh), 11 rotating chairs costing ₹1.75 lakh, 150 tables (₹35.62 lakh) and 179 chairs (₹15.93 lakh). Yeshwant Killedar of MNS slammed the move, stating that the cost works out to nearly ₹58,000/table and over ₹15,000/chair.

In a poll on US and Israel's war in Iran, 46% of respondents said that Israel and the United States did not win the war, while 22% of the public believed that victory was achieved, The Jerusalem Post reported. TCS sees 23,000 drop in headcount in FY26, spends ₹1,260 crore on restructuring

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) ended FY26 with a workforce of 5,84,519, down 23,460 from the previous financial year. The IT major reported ₹1,388 crore in restructuring expenses, according to its filings.
