A study commissioned by NITI Aayog found that patients using private facilities under PM Jan Arogya Yojana spend ₹53,965 as Out-of-Pocket Expenditure (OOPE) per hospitalisation on medicines. A survey of 1,156 households across states and UTs covered under PMJAY showed 35% households incurred no OOPE during hospitalisation.
