Ponting, Broad name their combined Best Ashes XI

Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting and ex-England fast bowler Stuart Broad have named their 21st century combined Best Ashes XI. They named Matthew Hayden and Alastair Cook as openers, followed by Ricky Ponting, Joe Root, Steve Smith, Ben Stokes, Adam Gilchrist, Shane Warne, Pat Cummins, Stuart Broad and Glenn McGrath. They picked Pat Cummins as the captain of the XI.

3,600-year-old city covering 14 lakh square metres found in Asia

A team from Durham University, University College London & Toraighyrov University discovered a city about 3,600 years old spread across 14 lakh square metres in Central Asian country, Kazakhstan. The city, named Semiyarka (Seven Ravines), overlooks a network of valleys. Archaeologists also found a central monumental building, which they said may have been used for governance or ritual activities.

What is inside the Ashes urn?

Ashes urn is 10.5 centimetres tall and weighs 124.8 grams. When ex-England captain Ivo Bligh passed away in 1927, the original urn was donated to Marylebone Cricket Club. Many believe it contains ashes of bail used in third match of 1882-83 Ashes series, which Australia lost. In 1998, Bligh's 82-year-old daughter-in-law claimed the urn contained remains of her mother-in-law's veil.

A massive fire destroyed 170 buildings in Japan's Oita city, with around 175 residents fleeing to an emergency shelter. Japan's Fire and Disaster Management Agency said that the cause of the fire was under investigation. Aerial footage from local media showed houses reduced to rubble and thick plumes of smoke rising from the area.

US Congress passes bill to release Epstein files

US Congress has passed legislation to compel the Justice Department to release all records related to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Doctor, arrested over planning poison attack in India, beaten by inmates in Gujarat jail

Dr Ahmed Mohiyuddin Saiyed, the prime accused in the Ricin terror conspiracy, suffered injuries during a fight with three undertrial inmates inside Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati Central Jail on Tuesday. Saiyed, arrested in an ISIS terror plot, was reportedly planning to poison public drinking water sources and temple prasad in Delhi, Ahmedabad, and Lucknow. US deports 200 Indians

The US has deported 200 Indians on a flight that will land at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport, officials said. The flight reportedly includes gangster Anmol Bishnoi, two fugitives wanted in Punjab, and 197 undocumented migrants. World's largest modern crater discovered in China

Scientists have discovered an impact crater in southern China, unusually large for modern times. The Jinlin crater, measuring between 820 and 900 metres wide and around 90 metres deep, is the largest known Holocene-era crater. It remained well-preserved despite the monsoon-prone, humid landscape. Quartz grains found in the crater confirmed it was created by a meteorite strike.
