West Bengal has 4,133 schools with no enrolled students, but 19,502 teachers are deputed there, according to UDISE+ 2025-26 data. The state also has 6,769 single-teacher schools serving 2,29,569 students. Of 5,663 zero-enrolment schools across India, nearly 73% are in West Bengal.
