Union Minister Kiren Rijiju accused Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke of being an AAP worker posing as a student leader during youth-led protests at Jantar Mantar. "Dipke is from Maharashtra...but he's an AAP worker...How did he become a student?" Rijiju said. While calling students' concerns genuine, he said attempts by AAP and others to hijack the movement weren't right.

US issues travel advisory for China, says hotel rooms, chats can be monitored

While issuing a travel advisory for China, US State Department warned Americans that their private electronic messages can be monitored in China. It said China monitors foreign visitors and hotel rooms, cars, taxis, internet use, digital payments can be monitored either remotely or on site. Personal belongings in hotel rooms can be searched without consent, it added.

A man, Rakesh Trehan, has announced a free 'petrol langar' at two petrol pumps in Sector 7 and Sector 10, Chandigarh, on August 18. Eligible visitors would receive coupons of ₹500 or ₹1,000, which can be redeemed for fuel at the designated locations. World's largest electric plane completes 27-minute flight for just ₹500

Sweden-founded, US-based Heart Aerospace flew its X1 demonstrator in New York, marking the first test flight of the world's largest electric aircraft. The plane flew for 27 minutes and reached 1,100 feet using just ₹500 worth of electricity. Gold prices in India fall after rising suddenly

The price of gold and silver in India fell on Tuesday after rising suddenly by ₹1,800 each in a day, as per IBJA data. Gold prices fell by ₹87/10 grams to close at ₹1,54,080/10 grams on Tuesday, a day after rising by ₹1,800/10 grams. Meanwhile, silver prices saw a bigger crash, closing ₹2,478/kg lower at ₹2,33,164/kg on Tuesday.

Govt removes 600 experts in complete overhaul of NTA, brings 4-tier paper checking system

Education Minister Pralhad Joshi has announced a major overhaul of examination systems at NTA, under which 600 experts have been removed and new experts are being onboarded. "A four-tier question paper checking system will be put in place," the govt said. NTA will be shifted to new premises where security will be reinforced with CISF teams, it added.

Iran fires missiles at UAE

The UAE Ministry of Defence announced that the UAE's air defence systems detected two ballistic missiles launched from Iran towards the country. The first fell outside the country's territorial waters, while the second fell within its territorial waters. Suspected AC blast at Kolkata hotel kills 9 Bangladeshis

Nine people, including a child, were killed while several others were injured after a massive fire ripped through a hotel on Free School Street in Kolkata. Over 700 mutual fund schemes gave negative returns in FY26: SEBI

The number of mutual fund schemes giving negative returns jumped threefold from 243 in FY25 to 731 in FY26, according to a SEBI report.
