Drone crashes while carrying 51-kg load, still named 'most promising' by US

Avidrone's Katana helicopter drone won first place in the DARPA Lift Challenge despite crashing while attempting to carry a 51 kg (112.4 pounds) payload. The 13-kg drone successfully achieved a 3.84 to 1 payload-to-weight ratio in the competition held at Ohio. Teams had to take off with a payload, fly, drop the cargo and complete the course without a load.

Jellyfish force shutdown of 3 reactors at France's largest nuclear plant

France's largest nuclear plant was forced to shut down three reactors after a swarm of jellyfish clogged pumps used to cool the units. Output at the fourth reactor was cut by half, leaving just one operating at full capacity. The plant was temporarily taken offline a year ago after jellyfish clogged its seawater pumping stations.

Donna, 62, and Raymond Nunn, 87 had already spent a night sleeping in the room without knowing camera was there. Urine-filled bottles, 7000 tonnes of trash left in Haridwar after Kanwar Yatra

After the Kanwar Yatra, which brought about 5 crore pilgrims to Haridwar, authorities are working to clean up the trash left behind. The pilot of Air India's Phuket-Delhi flight, which dropped 300 feet mid-air, appeared unsteady and needed assistance to sit down after landing in Delhi, NDTV reported. Analogue paneer banned in Madhya Pradesh

The Madhya Pradesh government on Wednesday banned the production, sale and use of analogue paneer, citing health concerns and promoting natural dairy products. Analogue paneer is a cheaper substitute for milk-based paneer, made using vegetable fats and starch either instead of milk. China's bullet train hits 800 kmph in just 5.3 seconds

An experimental maglev train in China has broken its own short-distance acceleration record for the third time in six months, reaching 800 kmph from a standstill in just 5.3 seconds. The 1.1-tonne vehicle completed the test on a 1-km track at the Donghu Laboratory in Hubei province. It was brought to a controlled stop over roughly 200 metres.

The event is visible in totality from parts of Greenland, Iceland, northern Russia, the Atlantic Ocean, Spain and a small corner of Portugal. India will not see the solar eclipse. Maharashtra govt makes Marathi mandatory for cab drivers from Aug 15

Maharashtra's Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik announced that Marathi will be mandatory for cab drivers from August 15 onwards. "If anyone doesn't know Marathi, legal action will be taken...They will be given a three-month grace period, after which their licence will be cancelled," he said.
