What happens to PPF account when one becomes NRI or foreign citizen?

When an Indian resident becomes an NRI, they can continue contributing to their existing PPF account until its 15-year maturity, though extensions are prohibited. However, acquiring foreign citizenship forces immediate account closure. The account stops earning the standard PPF interest rate and instead earns the Post Office Savings Account interest rate from that date until it is formally closed.

UPI transaction growth slows since April as govt considers charging MDR

The growth of UPI transaction volume in the first four months of FY27 slowed to 23.5% YoY, lower than the UPI volume growth of over 33% recorded in the first four months of FY26. This comes as the Centre is considering charging merchant discount rate (MDR) on UPI transactions. The fee is charged to businesses by banks offering UPI services.

Assam floods death toll rises to 100, over 1.37 lakh affected

The total death toll due to the ongoing floods in Assam has reached 100 as over 1.37 lakh people across seven districts remain affected. The Golaghat district remains the worst-affected, with nearly 70,000 people impacted, followed by Sivasagar. Authorities are operating 125 relief camps and relief distribution centres across six districts with about 49,061 flood-affected people staying in them.

111 people killed after massive 7.4-magnitude earthquake hits Colombia

At least 111 people were killed after a 7.4 magnitude earthquake hit Western Colombia, said reports. The epicentre was near San Jose del Palmar, which is a community of about 4,800 people in the Choco region, 400 km west of Bogota. According to the USGS, the earthquake struck at a depth of 107 km.

Trump's media firm's loss jumps 1,090% YoY to ₹2,270-crore in Q2
