US pauses $100,000 H-1B visa fee collection after court verdict

In a relief to Indian visa holders, the US Citizenship and Immigration Services will pause the collection of $100,000 fees for H-1B petitions after the US First Circuit Court verdict on July 24. The agency said that while the Department of Homeland Security disagreed with the court's order, it will comply with it even as it considers next steps.

Despite filing ITRs, taxpayers may receive notices like a Section 143(1) notice, which informs whether ITR has been accepted, a refund is due or additional tax is payable. A Section 139(9) notice is issued for a defective ITR and a Section 142(1) notice is issued for seeking additional information. A Section 143(2) notice indicates ITR is being scrutinised in detail.

Bill to tighten rules for birth, death registration passed in Lok Sabha

The Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2026 was passed in Lok Sabha on Friday. People to now earn higher interest if they deposit large amounts in banks

The RBI has now allowed all banks to offer different interest rates to customers based on the size of bulk bank deposits, with larger deposits getting higher interest rates. The banks will have to disclose differential interest rates every day by 10:00 am, with a 10-minute grace period. The differential interest rates will be uniform for all customers and branches.
