IAS officer Padma Jaiswal fired from service in rare move

In a rare instance of major penalty against a serving IAS officer, the Centre has removed 2003-batch AGMUT cadre officer, Padma Jaiswal, from service on charges of corruption. The action comes after Jaiswal, a Special Secretary in the Administrative Reforms Department of the Delhi government, was accused of misappropriation of government revenue and misuse of official position in 2008.

No OMR sheet, NEET to be completely computer based from next year: Govt after paper leak

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Friday announced that the NEET UG examination will be conducted in a fully computer-based test (CBT) mode from next year instead of using OMR sheets. This comes after paper leak led to cancellation of NEET UG 2026 exam held on May 3. The exam has now been rescheduled to June 21.

111 people killed, 72 injured due to storm and rain in UP

At least 111 people were killed and 72 were injured due to storm and rain that hit several districts of Uttar Pradesh. As per the latest figures, 170 animals were killed and 227 houses were damaged across the state. The worst-hit district is Prayagraj, which reported 21 deaths, followed by Mirzapur (19), Bhadohi (16), Fatehpur (11) and Bareilly (2).

Petrol and diesel prices are likely to be hiked further following the ₹3/litre hike on Friday, Times Now reported, citing experts. Govt imposes ₹3/litre excise duty on petrol exports

Government has imposed a Special Additional Excise Duty (SAED) of ₹3 per litre on export of petrol, with effect from May 16. The SAED on diesel exports, however, has been trimmed to ₹16.5 per litre from ₹23 at present, and the same on aviation turbine fuel (ATF) has been reduced to ₹16 from ₹33 a litre.
