Govt cuts excise duty on petrol to ₹3/litre, diesel to zero

The Centre has cut special additional excise duty on petrol to ₹3/litre from ₹13/litre and diesel to zero from ₹10/litre, Reuters reported, citing a government order. This comes as war in the Middle East sparked fuel supply concerns. Notably, India's biggest private fuel retailer Nayara Energy had hiked petrol and diesel prices by ₹5/litre and ₹3/litre, respectively, on Friday.

Liquor to now be sold at petrol pumps and malls in Chandigarh

Liquor will now be sold at petrol pumps, shopping malls and local markets in Chandigarh under the Excise Policy for 2026–27. However, liquor licences will be issued to only those departmental stores or petrol pumps that have an annual GST turnover exceeding ₹3 crore. Under the new policy, the operating hours of liquor outlets have been extended till midnight.
