Dense to very dense fog warnings issued for 8 states

IMD has issued dense to very dense fog warnings for eight states. It said that Punjab and Haryana will witness dense to very dense fog between December 20 and 25. Uttar Pradesh will witness dense to very dense fog between December 21 and 25, IMD added. Warnings have also been issued for Uttarakhand, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal.

ED restores over ₹300 cr for ex-employees of Kingfisher Airlines

The ED on Thursday said it has restituted funds worth over ₹300 crore towards long-pending dues of ex-employees of the now-defunct Kingfisher Airlines. The move follows a December 12 order by the Chennai-based Debts Recovery Tribunal directing the release of funds realised from the sale of attached shares. The ₹311.67 crore will be transferred to the official liquidator for disbursement.

Assam gives ultimatum to 15 'declared foreigners', asks them to leave India within 24 hrs

Fifteen people from Assam, who had been declared foreigners, have been directed to leave India within 24 hours in an invocation of the 1950 Immigrants (Expulsion from Assam) Act, The Indian Express reported. Police said the deportation is being coordinated with BSF. A 'declared foreigner' is a person who fails to prove their citizenship before a Foreigners' Tribunal, NDTV reported.

Rupee continues easing, opens 10 paise higher against US dollar

Indian rupee appreciated third time in a row on December 19 on likely continuous support from the Reserve Bank of India, currency experts said. The domestic currency opened at 90.15 against the US dollar, as compared to 90.25 at previous close. In the last three days, Indian rupee has appreciated 1.04% against the US dollar, according to Bloomberg data.

61,000 PUC certificates issued in 24 hrs after curbs in Delhi

Over 61,000 Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates were issued in Delhi within 24 hours of the implementation of anti-pollution restrictions. During this period, around 568 non-compliant vehicles were turned back.
