Rupee hits record low against US dollar after sinking 93 paise

The rupee saw the steepest single-day fall in several months, breaching 89-a-dollar mark for the first time and closed the session 93 paise lower at 89.61 (provisional) against dollar on Friday, PTI reported. This comes amid negative cues from domestic as well as global equity markets triggered by trade-related uncertainties.

Gratuity eligibility for fixed-term employees cut from 5 years to 1

According to the new labour code reforms announced by the central government on Friday, fixed-term employees (FTE) will be eligible for gratuity after just one year instead of five. They will also receive benefits equal to permanent workers, including leave, medical and social security. The government said that it will promote direct hiring and reduces excessive contractualisation.

Managing situation on-site: UAE govt on Tejas jet crash at airshow

India's Tejas fighter aircraft crashed during a demonstration at the Dubai Air Show on Friday, leading to the death of the pilot. The Dubai Media Office said, "A Tejas fighter aircraft from India…has crashed, resulting in the tragic death of the pilot." It added that firefighting and emergency teams responded quickly and are "currently managing the situation on-site".

How will workers benefit from new labour codes?

With implementation of four new labour codes, appointment letters have been made mandatory for all workers. All workers, including gig and platform workers, will get PF, ESIC, insurance, and other social security benefits. Employers will have to provide all workers above 40 years of age with free annual health check-up. It's now also mandatory for employers to provide timely wages.

Gold, silver prices fall for 2nd day in a row in India

Gold and silver prices have fallen for the second day in a row in India. Gold prices declined by ₹600 to ₹1,26,100 per 10 grams in Delhi on Friday, according to the All India Sarafa Association. Meanwhile, silver prices tumbled by ₹2,000 to ₹1,56,000 per kilogram on Friday. On the global front, spot gold was trading 0.38% lower at $4061.91/ounce.

The IMD has issued heavy to very heavy rainfall for several states/Union Territories for Sunday and Monday. It is very likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Kerala, Puducherry, Lakshadweep and Tamil Nadu. The iconic 1942 BSA WM20 motorcycle used in Sholay's song 'Yeh Dosti Hum Nahi Todenge' is being showcased at IFFI Goa.
