Olympic bronze medallist Dr Vece Paes, Leander Paes' father, passes away

Dr Vece Paes, who was a part of the Indian men's hockey team which won bronze medal at 1972 Munich Olympics, passed away aged 80 on Thursday morning. Dr Vece Paes was also the father of Olympics bronze medal-winning tennis player Leander Paes. He was suffering from advanced stage of Parkinson’s disease.

The last Viceroy of India, Lord Mountbatten, chose August 15 for India's independence to mark the second anniversary of Japan's surrender in World War II. As Supreme Allied Commander of the South-East Asia Command, he had personally accepted Japan's surrender to the Allied Forces on August 15, 1945, after atomic bombs destroyed cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, ending the war.

71 large US firms filed for bankruptcy in July, most in a month since COVID-19 pandemic

US corporate bankruptcies in July hit their highest monthly level since the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Large public and private company filings rose from 66 in June to 71 in the month. 16 BSF personnel to get gallantry medals for Operation Sindoor

20 killed after massive cloudburst in J&K

At least 20 people have been killed and dozens injured after a massive cloudburst caused a flash flood in Jammu and Kashmir's Chashoti village on Thursday, authorities said.
