I didn't cut off fuel: Pilot told co-pilot moments before Air India plane crashed

After one pilot of the Air India plane that crashed asked the other pilot why he had cut off fuel, the latter replied he hadn't cut it off. This was revealed in a preliminary report of the plane crash that killed 260 people in Ahmedabad last month. Both pilots had a combined flying experience of nearly 10,000 hours.

A Ram Air Turbine (RAT) is small turbine fitted on aircraft that serves as emergency hydraulic/electrical power source. It generates power from airstream based on aircraft's speed and connects to generator/hydraulic pump. Aircraft use it only if hydraulic systems fail or primary electrical power is lost. Notably, RAT got deployed on Air India plane before it crashed in Ahmedabad.

Before a Mayday call was made at 08:09:05 UTC, the fuel cutoff switch of engine 1 was transitioned from cutoff to run at 08:08:52 UTC, as revealed by the preliminary probe of the Air India plane crash. At 08:08:56 UTC, the engine 2 fuel cutoff switch was transitioned from cutoff to run. The flight had crashed in Ahmedabad.

Google beats OpenAI to hire Indian-origin techie Varun, use his startup's tech for $2.4 bn

Google announced it'll be onboarding Indian-origin techie Varun Mohan in a deal to use his startup Windsurf's technology reportedly for $2.4 billion, months after OpenAI tried the same thing. The deal will see Windsurf Co-founder Douglas Chen and some R&D employees also joining Google DeepMind. Google will get non-exclusive license to Windsurf technologies but won't own a stake in it.

AI-powered device achieves near-human-like sense of taste

Researchers have developed a new graphene-based sensor that, with AI, achieved a near-human sense of taste. By using sample chemicals like salty sodium chloride and bitter magnesium sulfate, they trained the device to link flavours to chemical structures. It then identified flavours in unknown substances with nearly 90% accuracy and could even learn complex tastes like coffee and cola.

Trump announces 30% tariffs on EU & Mexico

US President Donald Trump has announced that goods imported from the European Union (EU) and Mexico will face 30% tariffs from August 1. Russian woman with expired visa found living with 2 daughters in cave in Karnataka

A 40-year-old Russian woman, Nina Kutina alias Mohi, was rescued from a remote cave in Ramatirtha hills in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka. Mohi was accompanied by her two daughters, aged 6 and 4, and police said she was drawn to spirituality. She had kept a Rudra idol inside the cave. Her business visa had expired in 2017.

Air India reacts to AAIB report on plane crash, says 'it's not the last word'

Air India on Saturday reacted to the preliminary report released by Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) on June plane crash that killed around 260 people. "This (the report) is not the last word, but an important step in identifying factors," said Air India Senior VP for flight operations Manish Uppal. He said Air India will review the report with pilots.

Australian man posts job opening for butcher, says 'Got 140 applications, all from India, Pak'

Clayton Wright, owner of butcher and meat companies, said despite spending ₹62,000 on advertising a job opening for a butcher in Sydney, he failed to hire anyone. Who is Harsh Shringla, the President's nominee to Rajya Sabha?

Harsh Shringla, former Foreign Secretary and seasoned diplomat, has been nominated to Rajya Sabha by the President. 8 trains cancelled after goods train catches fire in Tamil Nadu

The Southern Railways has cancelled eight trains after a fire broke out in a goods train near Tamil Nadu's Tiruvallur.
