India considering grounding Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner fleet after Ahmedabad crash: Reports

The government is considering grounding Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner fleet following the London-bound Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, NDTV reported. The fleet will likely be grounded for safety review of the American wide-body airliner, reports said, adding that talks between India and US agencies are underway in this regard. Of the 242 people on board the London-bound plane, 241 died.

A video shared by News18 shows untouched food, broken walls, scattered debris and plane tail stuck on terrace of medical college hostel in Ahmedabad where the Air India plane crashed on Thursday. The plane carrying 242 people crashed shortly after take-off. Only one passenger survived the crash, while the official number of casualties on ground is yet to be ascertained.

A black box of Air India plane that crashed in Ahmedabad with 242 people onboard has been found. Black boxes record radio transmissions and sounds in the cockpit, such as pilot's voices and engine noises, and also monitor parameters such as altitude, airspeed and heading. Large commercial aircraft generally have two black boxes installed in aircraft's most crash survivable part.

Boundary catch rule in cricket changed

The boundary catch rule in cricket has been changed. As per the updated law, a fielder who's airborne can only touch ball once beyond the boundary and will need to come back inside the field for the catch to be called fair. The rule will be integrated into ICC's playing conditions this month and into MCC's laws in October 2026.

Civil Aviation Secretary SK Sinha said Air India flight AIC 171, which crashed in Ahmedabad killing 274 people, took-off at 1:39pm and began sinking seconds later on reaching 650ft height. The pilot declared full emergency at 1:39pm but ATC didn't get a response when it tried contacting the plane. The plane crashed about 2km from the airport a minute later.
