Hey guys, weβve had a few questions come up about dehydrating vs. freeze drying, so weβre breaking down the two.
πDehydratingπ
π§Process: Uses warm air and blowing air to remove 70-90% of the moisture out of the food.
π¦Food storage: Food can store up to a year, depending how much moisture youβve removed from the food.
πΈCost/ease: dehydrators cost less, are smaller, and you can easily build your own solar one (video example below, these can be made in any shape/size)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0f0jew8Whw
π₯¦Freeze dryingπ₯¦
π§Process: Instead of using heat, it uses really cold temps, and after dropping the temps, it creates a vacuum around the food and alternately heats and cools the food to remove the moisture, removing close to 90% of the moisture
π¦Food can store 20-25 years.
πΈCost/ease: these tend to cost more (anywhere from $2500-5000 as this is a new technology for homes). Itβs the size of a mini fridge and slightly bigger depending on the kind you get. Benefit is the super long term shelf life.
Video below explains the difference between the two processes and the woman actually shows examples of the difference between dehydrating and freeze drying 5 different kinds of food.

If youβre wanting to grow your own food but donβt know what to grow, then listen up!
We know that many people are making the choice to start growing their own food; whether itβs for health reasons, to save money, or to become more self-sufficient, we know that many of you are doing this for the first time. If you find yourself unsure of what you should be growing, then start by considering these 3 things:
Determine your climate zone
Before you start dreaming up all the things you want to plant, first be realistic with your climate zone and knowing what you can and canβt be planting. Websites like www.almanac.com are useful resources in finding your climate zone, simply by searching with your zip code.
Decide what to grow
Once you have determined your climate zone, make a list of all of the plants you can realistically grow. Do you want to grow flowers, vegetables, herbs, fruits, or a combo of all of the above? Select the foods that you would most like to consume. If you are limited on space, consider growing smaller plants or growing less of one thing. Another great option for tight growing spaces is growing vertically with vine vegetables.
Choose your ideal location
Depending on where you live and the amount of space you have will also factor into what kinds of plants you can be growing. If you have the freedom of choosing between several different spaces in your yard, then youβll be able to grow a larger variety of plants. Keep in mind that certain plants need a certain amount of sunlight per day.

Offgrid Demonstration And Education
Take a look at our completely off-grid, self-sufficient community, complete with its own food, water, and energy production. If you want to open your own that would be a demonstration center and business opportunity. Your living cost would be reduced by as much as 100%. The ability to show others is what this is all about, to show them how to grow foods instead of lawns.

Be Aware Of The Problem, But Focus On The Solution. It is really important innerstand the problem, being aware of it is key. Once you are aware of the problems, then it's time to focus on the solution. You can manifest anything, the key is conceiving it and believing it.
