What is really going on?
After contemplating this question from every conceivable (to my limited brain) perspective, and ultimately going beyond contemplation (mind chatter) to meditation (focus on vibration/frequency/silence) my hypothesis is that we are playing a sort of divine game, in the mind of God! 
The “ego”, (a hyper-limited perspective) represents the illusion of separation from God and is simply a character, “dust in the wind”, in the game.
We are in a holographic simulation. This does not negate religion, spirituality, or any other belief system. In fact, it allows for multiple belief systems to be simultaneously “true”… Because everything is possible in the mind of God!
Here are a few quotes that seem to support my hypothesis…
“Know thyself, know your enemy, 1000 battles, 1000 victories”, Sun Tzu, The Art of War 
“Whatever the mind can conceive and believe it can achieve”. Napoleon Hill Think and Grow Rich.
“If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think (actually feel) in terms of energy, frequency and vibration”. Tesla. 
So…
How do we “win” the game?
By raising our frequency/awareness!
How do we do that?
Turn off the enter-tain-mente, aka mind-hold, and focus on the gap, the frequency between the chatter!
What do we “win” as we individually raise our frequency/awareness? Peace, joy, love, and a connection deeper than and richer than the mind can imagine!
