અબ્રાહમ લિંકન એક પ્રખ્યાત વકીલ હતા. એક દિવસ એક ગુનેગાર તેની પાસે આવે છે અને લિંકન તેનો કેસ લડે એવી ઈચ્છા વ્યકત કરે છે. લિંકન તેને કહે છે, તમારો કેસ એક્દમ મજબૂત છે. જો હું તમારો કેસ લડુ તો તમે જીતી પણ જશો.
પરંતુ જો હુ તમારો કેસ લડીસ તો મને મારો અંતરાત્મા બૂમો પાડી પાડી ને કહેશે કે લિંકન તુ જૂઠ્ઠો છે, લિંકન તુ ખોટો છે. માટે હું તમારો કેસ લડવાનો ઇનકાર કરું છું.
હું મારો વ્યવસાયિક સમય વેચું છું મારા અંતરાત્માને નહીં
આ છે સાચી સત્યનીષ્ઠા.
સત્યનીષ્ઠા એટલે વિપરીત પરિસ્થિતિમાં પણ પોતાના વ્યક્તિગત અને સાર્વજનિક જીવનમાં પોતાના મૂલ્યો પર ટકી રેહવું.
