Note : If one cares for his/her data, one can setup their own servers through NextCloud services. What is it? You don't wanna go through that hassle of setting up your own servers and you are looking for a simplified solution which offers encryption; Icedrive, pCloud and Sync is the way to go.

IceDrive offers the cheapest plans and storage options, though pCloud is an older and a much more reliable platform. The free storage on offer by both should cover your basic needs. Want more, give a try to the monthly plans and try yourself.

My take
Apart from YouTube, and Playstore services, I barely use any Google services, so no Google Drive for me even though I have the 100GB monthly plan going on for the family.

I am a longtime user of Microsoft services, and as such was able to opt in for 15 GB of free OneDrive storage before they downgraded it to 5GB of free storage. That covers my basics needs.

For projects and office work, Dropbox does the job through its collaborative services when working with my team.

Now, when it comes to files, pCloud is what I use. I have the 2 TB lifetime plan with lifetime Crypto encryption. It's secure, simple and keeps my private files confidential with the highest level of encryption.

My recommendation
If you are a student and is looking for a cheap reliable option, go for the 150 GB lifetime plan from Icedrive. It offers 250 GB of monthly bandwidth which is sufficient for most users. Have a little extra to spare, go for pCloud + Crypto. If you are only considering free, chose from any of the above mentioned services and you are good to go. Thank you.
