Ongoing mass protests against Indonesia's “corrupt elite,” as described by unions, have taken a tragic turn. Moments ago, one person died in hospital after being run over by an armored police vehicle.
Video footage shows the moment taxi driver Affen Kurniawan was struck by the police vehicle and dragged several meters across the ground. A second person was also run over but survived with serious injuries.
The protests then escalated drastically. Protesters are currently surrounding the police station of the responsible brigade.
The protests, ongoing since Monday, have gained significant momentum as unions and student organizations joined forces against a deepening economic and social crisis. Unions said they mobilized tens of thousands today in Jakarta, while authorities flooded the streets with nearly 5,000 forces, including the military.

[] Good morning, Sethies. We apologize for bringing something unrelated to roleplayers here, but I hope you can take a moment to read this and open your eyes to what is happening right now. If you can, please help us to spread this message as well. We cannot remain silent about what is happening in Indonesia right now. Let us face the reality of our lives. Perhaps the government will not listen, perhaps they will remain silent. But as long as we still have the chance to defend what is right, let us stand tall, even if we are not on the front lines. In times like these, we cannot simply stand behind the wall or allow ourselves to be stepped on by the government. We must rise together and voice our opinions loudly. Even if all we can do is pray, spreading this message, or contributing in any way to voice our opinions, every action really matters. Let us continue to pray together for this country, always.
