Anthropic accidentally leaked the source code for Claude Code through a source map file in a public npm package, exposing around 500,000 lines of code across roughly 1,900 files.

The leak spread quickly and has already been mirrored across GitHub, making it hard to contain.

It looks like someone at Anthropic vibed a little too hard.

It’s important to be clear about what this is and what it isn’t.

This does not include the Claude model itself, no weights, no training data, and no way to run it locally.

What leaked is the Claude Code CLI, the layer developers use to interact with Claude, not the core system behind it.

Even so, it gives a detailed look into how Anthropic builds its tools and agent workflows. The code reveals a system with dozens of commands, built-in tools, and signs of multi-agent coordination where one system can spawn others to complete tasks.
