Before = comparing two past events
"I met her 2 years before the war." (Relative to a different past event)

❌ Wrong: I saw him 3 years before.
✅ Right:
✔️ I saw him 3 years ago.
✔️ OR: I saw him 3 years before the accident.

💡 Pro tip:
If you don't mention a second past event, don't use "before."
