XRP Crypto Scammers Seize 2.5m-sub YouTube Account, Start Live-streaming
2020 is becoming the year of the social media crypto scam hackers after raiders took control of the YouTube accounts belonging to a 2.43 million-subscriber Brazilian channel – filling it up with videos promoting an XRP scam.
In a video from UniversoCurioso, the channel’s operator David Damasceno explained that hackers obtained access to his YouTube account, posting live-streamed videos that contained bogus information about a fake XRP 100 million giveaway.
In order to take part, users were asked to send XRP 2,000 to 150,000 to a wallet address, with promises of a twofold return – tactics similar to those used in a recent spate of Twitter hacks.
Damasceno launched his channel three years ago and uses the platform to discuss popular science, history, and theories about aliens.
He says he was duped by a contact request from individuals apparently based overseas who promised to provide him with a new video editing tool named the Zenium App and advertising revenues. This tool, however, proved to be a piece of malware that – within 10 minutes of downloading – completely locked him out of his YouTube account.
The hackers then got to work fast – changing the channel’s logo to an XRP symbol and beginning a live broadcast.
When Damasceno realized what had happened, per a video he shared on a temporary new channel, he says the hackers offered him a bitcoin (BTC) reward worth around USD 10,000 if he let them continue broadcasting crypto scam videos on the UniversoCurioso channel.
Damasceno says he refused, determined that all he wanted was to get his channel back.
Some 26,000 viewers are reported to have watched the videos before, six hours later, Damasceno regained control over the channel – and promptly deleted the scam videos and posts.
This was not the first XRP nor another cryptocurrency scam on YouTube, as crypto giveaway scammers have become increasingly active this year. As a result, Ripple announced a lawsuit against the video-sharing platform several months ago, to which YouTube replied that it cannot be held liable for any third-party content.
Besides, the platform has been trying to improve its efficiency in removing crypto scams, which resulted in atakedown of multiple legitimate cryptocurrency channels and caused widespread discontent from many popular crypto content creators whose livelihood depend on their YouTube following. The situation has also prompted a search for more decentralized video-sharing alternatives to YouTube.

What Will Students Learn at China’s First Blockchain Undergrad Course?
Blockchain-related subject matters are no stranger to the classroom, with courses now available all over the world, but China is on the verge of an educational first – with a batch of students set to begin their studies at the nation’s first blockchain engineering undergraduate course. So what will be on the curriculum?
The new Chinese academic year begins next week, with students already enrolled in the new Blockchain Engineering major at the Chengdu University of Information Technology.
And, speaking to media outlet China Email, the course organizers stated that the course would begin with the basics, covering the same kind of ground as traditional computer science and technology courses. However, students will also be exposed to blockchain technology theory and blockchain project development methods from the outset.
They will also receive instruction on the intricacies of system design and adoption, as well as blockchain project management. The students will also learn how to conceive, design, implement and operate blockchain-powered systems in real-life application environments. Topics such as distributed storage, peer-to-peer (P2P) networks, encryption algorithms and cryptography, consensus algorithms and smart contracts are also on the syllabus.
By the time the undergrads are ready to complete their courses in 2024, they will be able to design and develop blockchain networks for practical use in a range of scenarios, and manage blockchain-based projects.
Students on the course will be able to choose blockchain specialization modules if they have a particular area of interest.
Modules will also focus on software engineering, cybersecurity, IT and communication engineering, Big Data and AI.
The course was approved by the Chinese Education Ministry last year.
As previously reported, industry insiders say that the education sector is failing to keep up with skyrocketing demand for blockchain talent in China.

Dominance testing 61.61 resistance again. This is the forth time in a row. If it was a usual chart with real resistance, I'd say its fucked up and 100% broken. Dominance isn't exactly calculated that way, but still its 4th time and it seems that reversal is coming.

Crypto Investor Ribbit Files USD 350m IPO, Set for Possible Mergers
Aiming for potential future mergers with related companies, Ribbit LEAP, a newly-formed business offshoot from early bitcoin (BTC) venture capital firm Ribbit Capital, has filed for a USD 350 million Initial Public Offering (IPO) with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
The IPO filing revealed that Ribbit is offering 35 million units at an offering price of USD 10 per unit.
Furthermore, the filing said, Ribbit LEAP "is a newly incorporated blank check company incorporated as a Cayman Islands exempted company and incorporated for the purpose of effecting a merger, share exchange, asset acquisition, share purchase, reorganization or similar business combination with one or more businesses or entities, which we refer to as our initial business combination."
No such partner has been selected yet,"nor has anyone on our behalf, initiated any substantive discussions, directly or indirectly, with any business combination partner," the company said.
Therefore, this is a Special Purpose Acquisition Company (SPAC) - one without a pre-existing operation but with plans to go public, aiming to acquire or merge with another company through the proceeds of the SPAC's initial public offering.
“We view partnership with management teams as a commitment for a decade or more,” Ribbit LEAP wrote in the filing. “Because of this we are focused on long-term value creation, and we seek to partner with investors with the same orientation.”
Without much known about Ribbit LEAP, expectations are that the newly public firm will conduct business similar to Ribbit Capital, which is a major investor in Coinbase, Chainalysis, Robinhood, as well as other cryptocurrency-based firms, as Forbes noted.
Investment banking giant JPMorgan Chase and Co was listed as the sole underwriter of the IPO, and Ribbit plans to apply for listing on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), the article added.
Ribbit Capital is also credited as a founding member of Facebook’s Libra Association, bolstering its involvement in the cryptoverse.
Meanwhile, as reported, talks of a Ripple IPO made the rounds yet again back in January. In July, Coinbase was said to be preparing to list its shares on a stock exchange this year or early next year, while exploring going public via a direct listing.
