New Asian Crypto Behemoth Blessed But Merger Delayed
Japanese regulators have given their approval to a proposed merger between chat app giant Line and the Softbank-backed Yahoo Japan.
Per multiple media outlets, including Fn News, the Japan Fair Trade Commission, the government body responsible for regulating economic competition in the country, granted permission for the deal to go ahead.
However, the world may have to wait a little longer before the new tech giant makes its debut on the scene. Digital Today reported that although the operators had hoped to complete the merger at the end of September this year, it now looks like the firms will complete the deal on February 28 as a result of coronavirus pandemic-related delays.
Both firms have numerous crypto connections – and the deal could potentially create a new Asian crypto behemoth.
Line was founded by Naver, South Korea’s biggest search engine operator. It has since spun off into a separate company, headquartered in Japan – where it claims to have upwards of 81 million monthly active users, in addition to a large user base in Southeast Asia. However, Naver still retains a major interest in Line, with many South Korean media outlets referring to it as a “Naver subsidiary.”
Line operates a number of crypto exchanges, including the licensed Bitmax trading platform in Japan, which links directly to the Line chat app. It also operates the Bitbox exchange via a Singapore-based subsidiary.
Naver is also a major investor in blockchain-related business and blockchain gaming.
Yahoo Japan, meanwhile, is a 40% shareholder in the Taotao crypto exchange, which it has linked to the accounts of Yahoo Japan’s 50 million or so active account holders.
Yahoo Japan, which is 48% owned by Softbank, also operates PayPay, an e-pay platform that uses Ripple’s MoneyTap solution.
Also, it has been a momentous day for Line, which also today won regulatory permission to list its native link (LN) token on Bitmax. LN pairings will be added to Bitmax on August 6.

Bitfinex Steps up Hunt For Its Hackers, Promises USD 400m In Rewards
Major crypto exchange Bitfinex has offered a multi-million dollar reward to anyone who can lead it to the hackers responsible for the the theft of nearly bitcoin (BTC) 120,000 in August 2016 - even to the hackers themselves.
Today's value of the bitcoin stolen from Bitfinex four years ago is around USD 1.34bn.
"The aggregate rewards available under this programme could be worth up to approximately USD 400 million at the current BTC price if all bitcoins are fully recovered," the company said, adding that the hackers themselves will also be rewarded for returning the stolen property.
"We will reward anyone with information that can put us in direct contact with those responsible for the 2016 security breach at Bitfinex. ... The hackers will receive a share of the returned property," Paolo Ardoino, Chief Technology Officer at Bitfinex said.
The company added that "the bitcoins stolen minus recoveries in 2019 are worth USD 1.344 billion today, with 30 per cent of that amount equal to USD 403,288,427."
The reward will be given once the identity of the hackers is confirmed. These informants will get 5% of the total property recovered or "equivalent funds or assets at current market values." The hackers themselves can get their reward if they return the stolen bitcoin, and their share will be 25%.
"Any payments made to those connecting Bitfinex will work to ensure this can be done securely, thereby protecting the identities of all parties, and Bitfinex reserves the right to impose conditions on any transfers in order to verify claims and ensure a secure process," they added.
On August 2, 2016, hackers made 2,072 unauthorized transactions, representing BTC 119,755 in aggregate. As part of Bitfinex’s recovery plan, they provided BFX tokens to all affected users, with each token representing USD 1 of losses. The investigation into the breach by law enforcement is ongoing.

Blockchain-based Pay’s the Way for South Korean Highways
Blockchain-powered payments are coming to South Korea’s highways – with the nation’s motorway operator sealing a deal that will see it use blockchain technology to power toll payments across the country before the end of the year.
Per D Daily, KEB Hana Bank, one of the nation’s biggest commercial banks, has signed on blockchain-based services and cooperation with the state-owned highway operator, the Korea Expressway Corporation.
The agreement will see the parties make use of KEB Hana’s smartphone banking app Hana One Q to allow motorists to defer their toll payments, pay in a lump sum or receive refunds – doing away with smart card, credit card or cash-based payments at toll points across the nation.
KEB Hana and Korea Expressway Corporation said they will also look to boost their cooperation using blockchain technology to transfer data, sharing service information, and sending and receiving processing a range of information.
The deal, which has the blessing of the country’s Ministry of Science and ICT and the state-operated Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) will allow motorists to sign up quickly, by entering the vehicle registration number in a new field of the bank’s app. KISA et al are hopeful that the move will boost contact-free payments, a key pillar of Seoul’s coronavirus pandemic response measures.
The platform, said the parties, will be introduced before the year is out.

Andre Cronje commented on a recent article published on Decrypt:
"... don't talk to reporters when you are angry,"
"there is truth in the article, but it is a lot more sensationalist than the full picture,"
"don't talk to a reporter just before going to sleep."
"Lastly, I learned my lesson back in March, I made the active decision to continue and work through whatever comes my way. I might hate it more often than not, but its not going to stop me. This space won't get rid of me, until there is nothing left to build"

Looks like BTC is printing a bullish re-accumulation formation - Bullish Pennant at the topside resistance from the weekly timeframe
And seems like we had the same formation in May 2019
Just compare these two market structures and you will find out that they look very similar:
Same rejection by 0.236 Fib in both cases, same Flash Crash after a higher high (2)
And on the whole, the Fib levels have been pretty much respected by both pieces of price action
No major reversal until 11k is broken, but going below 0.236 Fib (11.4k) on the closing basis would be concerning for the bulls

BTC UPDATE 📈
Finally something interesting. Closed the GAP which was formed during weekends. At the moment the price is staying at the trend support.
There was no new high formed. Our BTC are still on hold, nothing serious didn’t happen.
Now we expect the price to try to break the horizontal resistance at the third time.

Proof that Bitcoin is digital Gold.
When market risk is highest (since yield curve inversion 2019), BTC-Gold correlation is highest. Nearly double prior ATHs.
Suggesting prices move together >50% of the time.
Correlation growth also matches gold's >45% rally from inversion.
