🌾Millets have been a part of the Indian food basket for hundreds of years. They are deeply ingrained in our food systems, culture and traditions.

🇮🇳In the Indian subcontinent, millets were used as a staple in most households prior to the Green Revolution🍀

🅾️Interesting Indian sayings that highlights the mention of millets in our culture like Krishna-Sudama meet conversation 🫂which goes like this👇
| कै जुरतो नहीं कोदो सवाँ, प्रभु के प्रताप तें दाख न भवता
| means "Earlier it was difficult for him(Sudama) to even afford graind like Kodo and Sanwa (Barnyard millets) buf now they have all kind of delicacies.

🌿Also read how these miracle grains, which were traditionally a part of our food plates across the length and breadth of the country, reduced significantly over the years due to multitude of factors.✅️
🌾How millets are helpful to the rapid rise of Gluten Intolerance and Celiac Disease (CD) which is on rise in the European and American markets?

🛻Read about thr glitches in the production and processing of millets like de-hulling of minor millets like Foxtail Millet, Little Millet.... logistical and transportation issues.... Cost of production... And discouraging further value addition and mass consumption of millets.

🅾️ Benefits of millets:

• reduces hyperlipidemia and hence hypertension;

• raises the levels of HDL-C (good cholesterol);

• controlling artherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases;

• reducing Anaemia by curing iron deficiency

✅️Way Forward :

🌿In order to make this sustainable and truly manifest the spirit of the International Year Of Millets, it needs to be a mass movement

🍀IYM 2023 places the agenda of millet production on an international stage.
🔴

🌿It has taken us many years to forget eating millets and we need to make sure that they are not just seen as fad.

🟩 To give Millets a rightful and continued place in the food basket, concerted and sincere efforts need to be made by all actors in the ecosystem.
